The magpie trills a joyful refrain,
A song of Australia it is,
Wild and whispered; gentle and free.
Sing, majestic bird for us all,
Sing on, pied brother, warble your reedy song.
Wean our souls from grievance and division.
Not idle notes this Sabbath,
But the music of hope,
Sweet anointing.
